GENERAL

Where are you located?

A: We are currently located in Mission Viejo and are temporarily operating out of the Alicia Pet Care Center. The address is 25800 Jeronimo Road, suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691

What kind of animals will you have available?

A: The Pet Rescue Center will have a variety of cats and dogs ready for adoption.   We are not a breed specific organization so you will have to check back often to see what breeds, colors, and other exciting variations that we have on hand.

Where do your animals come from?

A: Our main goal is to work with the local rescue organizations and to help them rescue more pets by giving them an overflow facility to house and care for adoptable pets until we can find them a new home.   We will also be pulling animals from high-kill shelters ourselves if we have space in our facility or accepting surrenders from families that find they cannot keep their pet.

Do you take relinquishments?

A: The Pet Rescue Center does have a pet relinquishment program.   (see details below)

Do you take stray cats or dogs?

A:   We are not legally allowed to take strays that are found or picked up under any circumstances.   These "strays" may potentially be somebody's lost pet and need to be taken to your local shelter for proper processing.   We are not an animal shelter and not an organized municipal entity affiliated with the county in any way.

Are you a shelter?

A: The Pet Rescue Center is not an animal shelter.   We cannot accept strays.

Are you involved in anything having to do with Feral Cats?

A: Unfortunately we are not equipped to handle the care of feral cats.

What do you mean by No-Kill?

"No-kill" means that animals are not destroyed except in cases of terminal and painful illness, when compassion demands euthanasia because there is no reasonable alternative.   Under normal circumstances, The Pet Rescue Center would not even have to consider this option, as our goal is to have highly adoptable animals finding good homes through our outreach network.

VOLUNTEER

How can I volunteer?

A: You will first need to fill out a volunteer application.   We will review your application and contact you if we have volunteer space.

What duties will I have as a volunteer?

A: The Pet Rescue Center will have a variety of jobs available for its wonderful volunteers.   Some jobs that you may be able to help with include, walking dogs, socializing dogs, feeding and caring for the animals, helping at events, and many more!!

Is there a volunteer age requirement?

A: All of our volunteers will be required to be 18 years of age or older.   Due to the sensitive nature of handling animals that will not be familiar to you, there are risks that are involved.

What are the different volunteer positions and what do they include?

A: We have needs in every area of The Pet Rescue Center that volunteer help is welcome.

Kennel - day to day care and support of the dogs and cats at our facility

Events - staffing and promotion of The PRC at Expos, Homeowners Association Events, and Fundraisers

Adoption Events - Transportation and Promotion at Adoption Events to assist the adoption process of our dogs and cats.

Administrative Support

Is there any compensation for being a volunteer at the PRC?

A: There is no monetary compensation for volunteering at The Pet Rescue Center. You will however receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping save animals from imminent death at local shelter and helping us reduce the number of unnecessary euthanasias at Southern California shelters.

ADOPTIONS

Can anyone adopt a pet from The Pet Rescue Center?

A: The Pet Rescue Center will screen all applicants to ensure that they can provide a loving and suitable home for our adoptable pets.

Is there an age limit for adopting a pet?

A: You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt a pet from The Pet Rescue Center.

Why do you charge a fee for adopting a pet?

A: Your adoption fee helps The Pet Rescue Center pay for food, shelter, and medical care for all of its animals in our adoption system.

What does my fee get used for?

A: Your fee helps pay for food, shelter, medical care, adoption event fees, and advertising and promotion of the animals.

What do I get when I adopt an animal from The Pet Rescue Center?

A: When you adopt an animal from The Pet Rescue Center you will receive a folder with all the medical records that we have on file for that animal, the proof of either a neuter or spay, vaccination records, and any other pertinent information regarding that animal.

If I don't like the pet can I return it for a refund or select another pet?

A: The Pet Rescue Center's screening process for potential adopters will hopefully alleviate this situation.   We will accept animals back if the situation deems that the dog/cat was not a right fit for your family and make every attempt to find a replacement that is a better fit.   However, we will not give refunds.

I want to take 2 animals; can I get a discount on the adoption fees?

A: We would be thrilled if you would like to take home more than one dog or cat at The Pet Rescue Center to join your family.   We will reduce the cost of the 2nd adoption by 50% of price in this situation.

RELINQUISHMENTS

Is there a fee to relinquish my animal?

A: The Pet Rescue Center's owner relinquishment program requires a fee of $300 per animal.

Why will you not accept any animal for relinquishment?

A: We would love to save every dog or cat that we can, but due to space and financial constraints we have to have a limit to our acceptance.

Why do you charge a fee for relinquishments?

A: We charge a fee because we will be required to provide food, boarding, medical care, and any other necessary commitments in order to assure adoption for your animal.

Who gets the adoption fee for my animal?

A: All fees collected by The Pet Rescue Center go directly to fund The Pet Rescue Center and its services.

Who will be allowed to adopt my animal?

A: The Pet Rescue Center will screen all applicants to find a suitable home for your relinquished pet.
